Life Outside These Office Walls

In the whirlwind of deadlines, meetings, and project milestones, it’s easy to forget a simple yet profound truth:

💚 Every team member has a life outside these office walls and, if working remotely, outside our computer screens.

They return to homes, families, partners, pets, and myriad personal responsibilities and joys.

Some face challenges that we may never fully understand, while others might not have the comforting embrace of a loving home to return to.

🐲 As leaders, acknowledging this reality is not just about understanding - it's about connecting.

It's about recognizing that the people we work with are not just employees but individuals with rich, complex lives.

Outside of my role as your leader, your coach, and, in the past: a software engineer, I am a mother of three. I have two dogs, a partner and a mom, stepdad, sister, and brother who live halfway across the world.

Just like many of you, I juggle the demands of maintaining my home, nurturing my relationships, and taking care of my health.

This balancing act isn't easy, and we all do it in our unique ways.

❤️‍🔥🔥🐉 To give you a glimpse into this personal side, I want to share a video my daughter made for me yesterday. It so melted my heart like a dragon’s fire would!

It’s a heartwarming demonstration of our relationship and the love we share.

This video is a reminder to me - and I hope to all of you - that our roles at work are just one facet of our rich and multifaceted lives.

Empathy in leadership means recognizing and respecting these facets.

It's about creating a work environment where everyone feels seen and supported, not just as professionals but as people with lives, loves, and challenges outside of work.

Let's strive to foster a culture where empathy is not just a buzzword but a practice: a culture where we all feel empowered to bring our whole selves to work, knowing that we are part of a community that cares.

I invite you to share your stories and experiences, too.

Let's connect not just as colleagues but as people with diverse and enriching lives beyond our professional identities.

Together, we can make our workplace not just a place of productivity but a space of understanding, empathy, and genuine human connection.
